Adelaide Graduate Research Scholarships (AGRS)

The University of Adelaide, Australia offers a number of Adelaide Graduate Research Scholarships exclusively to its recent graduates to continue their education via a Masters or Doctorate degree by research.

 Applicants must have complete their four year undergraduate degree including first class honours in a research based honours program at the University of Adelaide in that semester OR have completed the above that year or in the previous year.

Worth of Awards

The AGRS provides:

  • Course tuition fees for two years for a Masters degree by Research and three years for a Doctoral research degree (an extension is possible for doctoral programs only), and
  • An annual living allowance ($25,392 in 2014) for two years for a Masters degree by Research and three years for a Doctoral research degree (an extension is possible for doctoral programs only).
  • No other allowances will be paid.

Note. The scholarship does not provide an Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) allowance.


In order to be eligible for consideration a student must:

  • complete their four year undergraduate degree including first class honours in a research based honours program at the University of Adelaide* in that semester OR have completed the above that year or in the previous year; or *This will be deemed to cover students who have completed all of their education at Adelaide and where the committee considers it appropriate students who have completed a lesser period of time but including the honours year.
  • be completing their masters degree** with a sufficient research component to be approved by the Research Education Development Committee as a degree acceptable for entry to the PhD (refer to the Academic Program Rules) at the University of Adelaide in that semester OR have completed the above that year or in the previous year; ** Students undertaking a coursework masters degree will be required to obtain an overall grade of Distinction with not less than a High Distinction in their research component(s) to be eligible for scholarships.
  • be eligible to enrol as a commencing student in a full-time postgraduate research program at the University of Adelaide in the following semester;
  • be an international student; and
  • not be currently enrolled in the higher degree by research program at the University of Adelaide for which the student is applying for a scholarship.
  • Note. Currently enrolled PhD students are not eligible to apply.
  • Note. Applicants who were considered in a previous round are not eligible for reconsideration.
  • The offer of a scholarship is contingent upon a student not being offered another award by the Commonwealth of Australia, The University of Adelaide, or an overseas sponsor. The University reserves the right to withdraw an offer of a scholarship at any time prior to enrolment if it is advised that an awardee has been offered a scholarship equal to or in excess of the financial value of the award offered by the University.

2014/15 University of Portsmouth Scholarships for Nigerians, Ghanaians

The University of Portsmouth invites Nigerian and Ghanaian students who applied for one of the following full-time taught master’s postgraduate degrees in the university to apply for the 2014/15 scholarships. The courses are:

 School of Earth and Environmental Sciences:
  • MSc Engineering Geology
  • MSc Geological and Environmental Hazards
  • MSc Environmental Geology and Contamination
  • MSc Crisis and Disaster Management

Department of Geography:

  • MSc Geographical Information Systems
  • MSc Coastal and Marine Resource Management

Worth of Award

  • The scholarships will be in the form of a 20% fee reduction from any tuition fee but please note, it cannot be taken in conjunction with any other fee reduction or bursary offered by the University.
  •  The scholarship is a one-off award towards a one year Masters fees and is non-renewable and only valid for study on the courses listed above.


  • The scholarship is open to applicants from the following countries:
  • Nigeria: Scholarship is open to all Nigerian applicants who hold a minimum G.P.A 3.0/5 (which is a high Second Class Lower) in a relevant subject.
  • Ghana: Scholarship is open to all Ghanaian applicants who hold a minimum of a Second Class Upper in a relevant subject.

Call for fully funded postgraduate studies with the Pan African University

The PAU is an initiative of the African Heads of State and Government of the African Union. It is a Premier continental University network whose mission is to provide wholesome postgraduate education geared towards the achievement of a prosperous, integrated and peaceful Africa.

2014 CoR-AF Scholarship for Developing Countries at SOAS, UK

The Cultures of Resistance Network Foundation and the American Friends of SOAS, University of London (AFSOAS), invite applications for postgraduate scholarships from applicants from countries that have been affected by wars and extreme poverty.

 Security conditions permitting, scholars are expected to return to their home countries to apply their knowledge and skills for the betterment of their societies. In the case of refugees or those fearing repression and censorship in their home countries, they expect that they will seek employment/work/study abroad toward the aim of improving the future of their home country and that of its citizens.

Worth of Award

  • Two Cultures of Resistance Scholarships will be available in 2014/15.
  • Each scholarship is valued at £24,000 in total. Fees will be deducted from this amount and the remainder will be used toward maintenance.
  • In addition, each scholar will benefit from a 20% reduction in their tuition fees and one Cultures of Resistance Scholar every year will benefit from free student accommodation at International Students House (ISH).

Candidate Criteria

  • Although priority will be given to students from Afghanistan, Burma, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Iraq, Kashmir, Kurdistan, the Palestinian Territories (West Bank and Gaza), Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Tibet, Western Sahara, and West Papua, the scholarship program is open to students from the following countries/territories:

  • Applicants must meet the English language condition of their offer of admission to study at SOAS as soon as possible but no later than 1 June 2014.  If your offer is conditional on English, please arrange your English test and ensure you meet the English requirements as soon as possible.


  • Scholarship Applications must be received no later than 17:00 (UK local time) on March 20, 2014. Apply for admission at least 4 weeks before this scholarship deadline. You are expected to only submit an application for scholarship after you have applied for admission
  • Note that complete applications for admission can take up to 4 weeks to be considered by the Department, although this duration can vary depending on the time of year.  You should be prepared to wait up to 6 weeks in busy periods.

University of Birmingham International Postgraduate Scholarships Program

Applicants from around the world are invited to submit applications for International Postgraduate Scholarships Program offered by University of Birmingham. The goal of this program is to attract students of the highest calibre from around the world and have been welcoming international students to the University for over 100 years.

The University of Birmingham is offering 20 International Postgraduate Scholarships worth £10,000 towards the tuition fee a one year Masters (Taught or Research) programme for 2014 entry.

Eligibility & Criteria-

  • have been offered a place to study on an eligible one year Masters programme at the University of Birmingham
  • be overseas for fee purposes
  • be attending full-time and on-campus (not distance learning)

Sussex Scholarship for Nigerian and Pakistani Students

University of Sussex is inviting fee paying students from Nigeria and Pakistan in Masters Course in the University to apply for ‘Sussex Nigeria Scholarship’ 2014. The scholarship is worth £3,000 fee reduction support to the students.

Students who are successfully admitted to an eligible Masters course in the University will be offered a chance to apply for the scholarship automatically.

Eligibility Criteria –

  • Applicants must be self-financing student from Nigeria and Pakistan and have accepted an offer of a full-time place on a Masters course at the University of Sussex commencing in September 2014.
  • Students whose tuition fees are funded by an external funding body are not eligible.
  • Students who have been offered any other Sussex scholarship are not eligible.
  • Students applying for or enrolled in the following courses are not eligible – postgraduate diplomas, graduate entry LLB, common professional examination/graduate diploma Law, graduate diploma in Economics, Masters degree in Social Work, Social Work post qualifying masters degree, PGCE courses and schools direct teaching courses, MSc Automotive Engineering, master of education (two years part-time), MA degrees in IDS, Pre-Masters degrees and diplomas taught at partner colleges validated by Sussex. MA degrees in IDS that are eligible to apply are – MA Gender and Development, and MA in Climate Changeand Development.

UCL African Graduate Scholarships for African Students 2014/15

The University College London African Graduate scholarships are open for applications from suitably qualified candidates for the 20114/2015 academic session. This exists to support African nationals with a high-quality academic and professional background who would not be able to study at University College London without financial assistance.

 Worth of Award: Up to $16,750. The Scholarship is a one-off award for the academic year September 2014 – September 2015 to study at the UCL Institute for Global Health.


  • The candidate must be an African national and a permanent resident of an African  nation at the time of application.
  • The candidate must have made an application and been accepted to UCL to study for a full-time postgraduate programme at the Institute for Global Health for the coming academic year.
  • The scheme offers a substantial scholarship towards UCL tuition fees, accommodation and some living costs.
  • The candidate must also be able to provide evidence that he/she has secured other sources of funding for traveling to and from the UK.
