Text I JOHN 5:14-15

Prayer is a subject that many people seem to be specialists in. A lot of people even pagans offer some kind of prayers to God. We really need to assess if the prayers that even believers or born again people in this time and age are answerable. There are some prayers that if God answers them he will become an accomplice in crime with those offering such prayers.

According to the scripture above, verse 14 tells you that one major key to answered prayer is first to obtain the hearing of God or to secure divine audience. It tells you also that it is only the prayer that is prayed according to the will of God that hears.

That means God does not hear any prayer that is not according to his will, God does not hear your opinion he listens to and answers only his will in his word that is presented back to him.

Verse 15 says if we know that he hears us, whatsoever we ask we know that we have the petition that we desire.

If we don’t know that he hears us whatsoever we ask, we don’t know that we have the petition that we have desired. This also is true. Once you are sure He has heard you then you are sure that He has answered your prayer.

Prayers that are answerable are prayers that God will hear in the first place. What makes a prayer answerable is also what make it honourable and that is the will of God.

It’s just nine more days to wrap up our Victory Month programme. More strength to finish well in Jesus’ name.   Amen.

Text Luke 11:2

In prayer we must learn to honour,   worship and adore God.

He wanted his people in the Old Testament not to take His name in vain. Now, it is not only that you honour the name of the Lord or hallow the name of God or sanctify his name in the time of prayer only, it must be part and parcel of your life. You can’t use the name of God throughout the day and come to church on Sunday and begin to pray sanctimonious religiously with His name and think you are hallowing His name. No. many people do this and they don’t get answered prayers.

Many just pray to soothe their conscience. Beloved, prayer is more than just soothing your conscience. It is a two-way communication with the living God by a living human being in a covenant relationship with him which affects and changes things in your situations and circumstances. Don’t form a habit of just praying as a religious duty to soothe your conscience. Let true worship flow from you to God in prayer, adore Him and honour him with your worship in prayer. Truly hallow God’s name and it shall be well with you. I pray God answer your prayers this Victory Month. More strength to finish well! Amen.

Read I Samuel 14:6-16

The Philistines had gathered to fight the Israelites. Everything appeared in their favour. They had all the weapons while the Israelite had none except King Saul and his son Jonathan. The Philistines were more in number. There were 30,000 chariots 6,000 horsemen and innumerable footmen. Besides, they had different classes of warriors; regular soldiers as well as spoilers (commandos). The Israeli army had drastically reduced to about 600 men. The Philistine commandos took some strategy locations from which to launch their attack while the Israelites were at a disadvantaged position.

The Philistines were well fed and strong while their counterparts were hungry, weak and fainting. There was no way 600 men could face that number. Infact, the Israeli army reduced 3,000 to 600 out of fear. The rest had gone into hiding in caves, rocks, thickets and pits. In the midst of such uncertainty, fear and hopelessness came Jonathan. He stood in faith in His God. He had an understanding of the God of Israel to a point where that knowledge produced unusual strength and boldness. Daniel says those who know their God shall be strong and do exploits (Dan. 11:32b).  Jonathan told his armour bearer to come with him to the camp of the Philistines. This was based on a revelation he received from God’s Word and conviction base on testimonies of past battles, saying “…for there is no restraint to the LORD to save by many of by few” (I Samuel 14:6b).

Are you surrounded by enemies you cannot number? Do you faint? Are the myriad of problems you are going through making you discouraged and causing you to hide in the pits and rocks of unbelief, inaction and fear? Rise up. Jonathan acted on that revelation, took a step and killed the first twenty enemies and God honoured His word.  God sent an earthquake and an unusual trembling, fear and confusion into the midst of the Philistines so that each thought his neighbor was the enemy; so they began to destroy themselves furiously. Has God given you His Word? Act on it. Take that step of faith in obedience to God’s command and Heaven will back you up. Every revelation not acted upon robs the recent of a gold mine of God’s blessings.

NOTE: In the midst of confusion, fear chaos, Heaven waits for your first move of faith before backing you up.
